thehealthyhomeThe Healthy Home: Simple Truths to Protect Your Family from Hidden Household Dangers by Myron and Dave Wentz, with Donna K Wallace, 2012

Although I try to stay informed when it comes to product and food safety, and try to minimize my family’s exposure to toxins in the things we buy, this book was a real eye-opener for me.  It’s laid out like a virtual tour of a standard home; each chapter is devoted to a particular room, and points out potential hazards in various items you would find, or use, in each – from food to fabrics to cleaning products, and even everyday household gadgets.

This book isn’t designed to scare readers (Is your laundry detergent killing you?), but it does go into great detail – in a knowledgeable but conversational way – about the potentially toxic components found in everyday items, and offers substitutions and suggestions to help mitigate their harmful effects while still enjoying a modern lifestyle.
